In that case you need to consider joining VARO Energy as Compliance Officer Renewables.


As Compliance Officer Renewables, you will join the European Renewables Team of VARO.
In this role you ensure that VARO and its customers comply with the obligations arising from (inter)national legislation for the incorporation of renewable fuels into mineral oils in France, Spain and neighbouring countries. You will participate in projects, implement and structurally embed new product streams into VARO’s existing fuel business. By building collaboration and being closely connected to various teams like Trading, Business Development & Wholesale and Legal Counsel, you will realise successful implementations. In addition you will ensure that the renewables allocated to obligations in EU Member States meet the changing and country-specific sustainability requirements. Finally, you will monitor the contractual agreements VARO has in these countries on uniformity of applicable administrations within VARO and the resulting reports, on the basis of the local legal framework and certification standards applied (ISCC). With your contributions on the interface of financial, legal and commercial input, you facilitate optimal commercial decisions on a short-term tactical level and ensure timely and correct reporting on our obligations to the local authorities. You will report to the Renewables Compliance Manager.


  • BSc or MSc degree in Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or similar;
  • At least 3 years experience in a compliance role;
  • Excellent command of English, French and Spanish, both written and verbally;
  • Strong analytical and financial skills in both qualitative and quantitative terms.
  • Relevant experience in renewables energy or feed stocks is considered an advantage;
  • Expert knowledge on renewables regulations and national transportation fuel policies;
  • Able to define and implement practical aspects of regulations and an expert in legal texts and declarations;
  • Strong communication skills with interest to build valuable relationships and convince stake holders;
  • Accurate and structured;
  • Entrepreneurial personality with hands-on and pro-active attitude;
  • Able to work at one of VARO’s locations in Rotterdam, Bordeaux or Cham and willing to visit the other locations when needed;
