Are you an energetic Head of Research & Development with experience in the chemical industry? Position

As Head of R&D, you will play a pivotal role in the further growth and product innovation within BYK Netherlands. Your main responsibilities include leading and developing the R&D team for wax additives, in collaboration with the different technology leaders in the team. Your team of 8 is based in Deventer and Denekamp. You manage the different responsibilities of team members, depending on set priorities in their roles of technology project leader, lab worker and technical specialist in the fields of raw material and recipe management. In doing so you are responsible for all activities related to the development and innovation of BYK’s wax additives business. You ensure the efficient management of a substantial project portfolio and related development initiatives. In addition, you make sure that fundamental knowledge about properties and production methods of BYK’s products and used raw materials is properly documented.
To ensure the success of BYK’s development efforts in the Netherlands, you maintain and develop your network with BYK R&D colleagues in Wesel, the End-Use (application) managers, their specialists and lab teams. Furthermore, you interact with regulatory affairs, procurement and external contacts such as suppliers, universities, and research institutions. By doing so, you facilitate an effective cooperation with all involved parties and ensure an efficient execution of your project portfolio. At the end of the project development cycle, you are responsible products are successfully transferred to BYK locations in the Netherlands, the United States, and China, as well as tolling partners when appropriate. You report to the Manager Research & Technology in Deventer, with a dotted line to the Technology Leader Surface Chemistry in Wesel.

Profile

An academic (MSc/PhD) degree in (bio)chemistry or chemical technology;
10+ years working experience of which 5 years in a leading role;
Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the chemical industry with formulated product solutions in, for example, coatings, inks, adhesives or composites;
Any knowledge of wax additives is obviously valued;
Passionate tech professional with strong management and process skills that is not easily satisfied;
A goal-oriented and customer-focused team player with a proactive and optimistic attitude;
People manager with strong communicative and presentation skills;
Dutch, English and reasonable to good proficiency in German is required;
Based in an acceptable distance from Deventer, or willing to relocate.
